Two People Test Positive at Medical Checkpoint in Southern Shan State

Last Friday, two people tested positive for COVID-19 at a medical checkpoint in Nangpan Tat village in Kalaw Township, located in southern Shan State.

One of them, who is employed at the Tigyit coal factory, was on his way to work from Yangon. The other person was traveling to Shan State capital, Taunggyi, from Mandalay. 

Dr Zawana Ko, who is deputy head of Shan State Public Health Department, told SHAN the coal worker, who is from Yangon, was traveling with ten others. 

Both of the confirmed cases—one of them is 41 and the other is 34–are under observation at the Kalaw Public Hospital. 

Dr Zawana Ko told SHAN the group who traveled with the coal worker were sent back to Yangon for quarantine. 

In southern Shan State, there have been 94 confirmed cases confirmed, while one person died and 58 have recovered. Currently, 35 confirmed cases are staying in hospitals in southern Shan State. 

Nationally, there are 53,405 cases on November 2. Out of this, 34,189 have recovered and 1258 have died.
