SNLD Candidates Challenge Preliminary Election Results

Must read

Some Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) candidates have yet to concede to preliminary election results.

“The vote count is different from yesterday, so I don’t trust the data,” said Sai Mya Tun Soi Hurng, SNLD’s candidate for House of Nationalities for constituency 7 in Shan State, in Hsipaw, Nawng Kio, Namatu, Mong Mit and Man Bein.

He hasn’t submitted his Form 19 yet, demonstrating a non-binding agreement with preliminary election results, which indicated the incumbent National League for Democracy (NLD) won in the constituency. However, the Union Election Commission hasn’t officially announced the November 8 polling results.

Sai Mya Tun Soi Hurng found no issue with results from Kyaukme, Hsipaw, Nawng Kio and Namtu. But he said ballots from Mong Mit and Man Bein need to be reviewed.

“At the moment, I’m 54 votes behind NLD, and I need to find out why,” Sai Mya Tun Soi Hurng said. He won’t sign he said, until discussing the matter with polling station officials from Mong Mit  and Man Bein.

SNLD candidate Maw Tun Aung, for the House of Nationalities in Kutkai township, also did not sign his Form 19 because he said the election wasn’t fair. Preliminary election results show the Ta’ang National Party and the military backed Union Solidarity and Development Party performed well in constituency 5.

SNLD candidates Sai Tun Aye won Upper House seats in constituency 6, located in Loi Lem, and Nang Morn Sein, in constituency 7, located in  Lashio, respectively.
