Some eligible voters staying in quarantine facilities in Shan State, located outside their constituency, lost the opportunity to cast advance ballots for the upcoming election because they couldn’t file the necessary paperwork before the October 25 deadline.
According to the Union Election Commission, anyone staying in a quarantine center can complete a form-15 to participate in advance voting. But Zaw Myint Win, who’s secretary of the Shan State Election Commission (EC), told SHAN the process is a little more complicated for those from an outside constituency. They must receive the form-15 from their home constituency. And it needed to be signed it and sent it to the EC by the Sunday deadline.
There are over 700 in quarantined in Taunggyi Township.
Advance voting is between October 29 and November 4.
Anyone sixty years of age or older with health issues may also cast advance ballots from October 29 to November 2. Election officials will go directly to their homes to collect their votes.
