The Myanmar military has launched another aerial bombardment in Kyaukme, Shan State, with a bomb striking near a clinic in the town center, an area under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), local residents reported to SHAN.
The attack occurred around 10:30 a.m. on August 3, when an explosion rocked a grocery store adjacent to the Zayarphyo Clinic.
“The bomb landed near a bakery in front of the clinic, sending plumes of smoke across the town,” a Kyaukme resident said.
The latest strike adds to mounting civilian casualties and property destruction from sustained military air and artillery assaults in the region. Authorities are currently investigating the full extent of the damage.
Just a day before the bombing, on August 2, a monk in Kyaukme Township’s Ward 2 lost his right leg after stepping on a landmine while cleaning the Nam Sit Lin Monastery. He remains hospitalized.
Later on August 3, around 2:30 p.m., the military reportedly dropped four 250-pound bombs near a TNLA camp outside Kyaukme.
Since late July, the junta has intensified attacks on TNLA-held territories, including Kyaukme, Mongkut (Mogok), Nawnghkio (Naung Cho), Mongngaw, Monglon, Hsipaw (Thibaw), and Kutkai.
According to the TNLA Press and Information Department, the recent offensive has killed 27 civilians, among them women, children, and drivers, and wounded 82 others. Additionally, at least 116 homes, two schools, and two monasteries have been damaged.
Analysts suggest the junta is escalating airstrikes in response to growing battlefield losses. In July alone, the military conducted at least 63 air attacks against ethnic armed groups and allied People’s Defense Forces (PDFs).
As clashes persist, concerns rise over the humanitarian crisis unfolding in northern Shan State, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence.
