Two children were killed in a drone strike carried out by the Myanmar military junta on a school in Li Woe Village, Nanmaekhon Township, Karenni State, on June 24.
The attack occurred at around 1:00 p.m., when a military drone dropped explosives directly onto the school compound. According to a humanitarian worker assisting internally displaced people along the Shan–Karenni border, the school was struck multiple times.
“They dropped bombs from a drone,” the aid worker told SHAN. “They repeatedly targeted the school, and two children were hit.”
One child died at the scene, while the second succumbed to injuries while being transported for emergency medical treatment. The victims were approximately six and ten years old.
Local observers said Nanmaekhon Township has become a frequent target of military attacks despite the absence of active ground fighting in the area. Junta forces are believed to be launching the strikes from positions in neighboring Mong Pai (Mobye) Township, using a combination of heavy artillery and drone attacks.
The strike on Li Woe Village was part of a broader escalation on June 24. Later that evening, at around 10:00 p.m., the military carried out another aerial attack on a village in western Demoso Township, near the Loi Nan Pha area.
Attacks on schools and other civilian infrastructure, including the use of drones, have become an increasingly common feature of the junta’s military campaign in Karenni State. Local humanitarian organizations continue to urge international monitoring bodies to document these incidents as evidence of ongoing attacks against civilians.
