Artillery attacks carried out by the Myanmar military junta and the Pa-O National Organization/Army (PNO/PNA) have destroyed three homes in Ye Pu village, Nyaung Shwe Township, Southern Shan State.
According to an official from the Human Rights of Inle Region, the incidents occurred on January 25 and January 29, 2025. The attacks caused severe damage to local homes and forced residents to flee for safety.
“During both incidents, artillery fired by the military and PNO struck the village. Three shells directly hit houses, while 19 others landed in surrounding areas,” the official explained.
The assaults have left villagers in fear, with many seeking refuge in neighboring areas. “Some have moved in with relatives nearby, while others remain uncertain about their future. The military’s actions are causing immense suffering for villagers, especially children,” said a resident of Nyaung Shwe.
On January 17, an IDP camp in Bayar Taung village was targeted by artillery fire from the military and PNO forces, leading to three fatalities and injuring 14 others.
In a separate incident, over 60 homes in Hti Sone village, east of Hsihseng Township, were destroyed by airstrikes and artillery attacks launched by the junta.
The escalating conflict in Southern Shan State has displaced thousands of residents, sparking urgent calls from affected communities and humanitarian organizations for a swift end to the violence.
