Thailand’s Ministry of Labour announced plans to close all Certificate of Identity (CI) issuance centers in response to the Junta’s call.

According to the announcement on June 18, the ministry confirmed that it has already made the decision to close all CI centers on July 7.

“It’s true. All CI centers will be closing soon. Their operations will cease by the end of this week. Those needing CIs should act quickly to obtain them before the centers shut down completely”, said Sai Sai, who is assisting Myanmar migrant workers with passport issues.

To assist in identifying Myanmar migrant workers arriving in Thailand, a network of 8 CI centers was established on October 3, based on mutual agreements between Thailand and Myanmar.

However, in response to the Junta’s demand to close these centers, Thailand’s Ministry of Labour has agreed to comply, as stated by the Ministry.

“The closures will create challenges for those who may require CIs in the future. The processes will only be convenient once these centers reopen”, Sai Sai added.

Therefore, social aid groups assisting Myanmar migrant workers urge those in need of CIs to promptly visit these centers and obtain their documents before they close permanently.
