State Administration Council (SAC) shelling injured a child and damaged homes during clashes with the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Mongmit Township in northern Shan State.

“Clashes have been breaking out in the area since January 10, and the Burma army attacked Ohn Chaw village with artillery around noon on January 11. The shelling injured the child and damaged a Buddhist monastery and over 10 houses in the village,” a man from Mongmit Township told SHAN.

Nine-year-old Sai Moe Dee suffered injuries to his ears and face.

According to the source, the combined forces of TNLA, Kachin Independence Army, and People’s Defense Force fought with SAC’s Light Infantry Battalion 348 and Infantry Battalion 223 and 276 between Ohn Chaw and Ywa Thit villages at around 5:30 p.m. on January 10.

Locals said a SAC shell that landed near Myo Thit in Mongmit Township on January 3 injured two civilians, including a woman who later died in a Mandalay hospital where she was receiving medical treatment for her injuries.

TNLA, KIA, and PDF seized three military camps from the Burma army in Mongmit Township in early January 2024, and many residents of the area have fled to Mandalay, Pyin Oo Lwin town, and other areas away from the conflict.
