Unidentified gunmen shot and killed National League for Democracy (NLD) parliamentarian elect for Kyaukme District on Friday evening.

Hteik Zaw, who was elected to the Upper House on November 8, was shot by two gunmen on a motorbike outside his home in Pin Tein village in northern Shan State’s Kyaukme Township at 6:00 p.m. on November 21.

“Two men came with a motorbike. Then they shot dead him with small gun,” a police officer told SHAN, referring to a pistol.

Shot in the chest, Hteik Zaw was immediately sent to Kyaukme public hospital, where he later died.

No one has been arrested for the murder.

Unidentified gunmen also shot at the house of Soe Htun, chair of the Kyaukme Township Election Commission, on the night of November 14. No one was injured in that shooting, and no arrests have been made.
