Shelling Injures Child in Kutkai Township

Must read

A child and a man were injured when shells landed in Nam Pak Kar (aka Namphetka), village-tract in Kutkai Township.

On Tuesday, the 11-year-old victim was injured by a shell that struck the fourth quarter of the village-tract at 11 am, while the 35-year-old victim was affected by shelling in the village’s second quarter that night. Local volunteers have taken them to the hospital for treatment in Kutkai town.

As the Burma army frequently clashes with ethnic armed groups in the village, a woman from the village said she can’t determine which of the groups is responsible for the attacks.

“Generally, civilian casualties are a result of the Burma army’s shelling in Nam Pak Kar,” another local said, speaking on condition of anonymity. He stated that this month, at least six civilians were killed, and over ten were wounded due to clashes between the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Burma army. A few days ago, a man sustained a serious gunshot injury, and another accidentally stepped on a landmine in a former regime camp, he said.

Clashes between the TNLA and the Burma army continue in Kutkai Township in northern Shan State.
