The Burma Army (BA) has attacked the Kachin Independence Army and the People’s Defence Army on Lon Ja Mountain, where clashes that began on 20 October escalated last week.

Over 600 villagers from Pai Wan, Nawng Tawng, Lon Ja and Wanwa have sought refuge at Thein Mahar Buddhist monastery in Momauk town and other monasteries in surrounding villages. Others have gone to a displaced persons camp in Bhamo or have taken shelter with their relatives.

The source said that the KIA and PDF fighters are staying on the mountain and not in any of the villages.

”The BA have been firing indiscriminately in all directions.”
