Dr Lin Htut Oo, head of Tachileik Public Hospital, said the transmissions, confirmed at 10 am, were detected after two males and three females sought medical assistance at clinic that treats fever patients.

Health officials are currently conducting contact tracing and quarantining anyone who had contact with the five people.

Dr Lin Htut Oo told SHAN there’s 56 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in the town located next to the Thai border. At the time of press, the new cases hadn’t been admitted to the hospital.

In response to the outbreak in eastern Shan State, more quarantine facilities are being prepared by authorities. Areas where cases were detected are being locked down in a bid to prevent further infections.

The Ministry of Health and Sports reported 95,018 confirmed cases in the country on December 3, while 73,748 and 2,028 have died.
