Fighting erupted near Kyauk Wah village at about 8:00 p.m. this Tuesday, November 24, lasting between 15 to 20 minutes.

Maj Tar Aik Kyaw, TNLA spokesperson, said although the clash was over quickly it was intense because Burma Army soldiers were within sight of the Ta’ang soldiers.

Sai Hla Maung, who lives in Mogok town, told SHAN that Shan and Lisu villagers fled to the town to escape from the conflict.

Villagers reported hearing heavy weapons being fired. They feared hostilities would continue like before the election when the armed groups frequently clashed in the area.

TNLA also fought with Tatmadaw troops on November 19, less than two weeks after the general election.

Ruby mining, near the site of the battle, ceased because the extraction licenses expired and weren’t reinstated.
