A 23-year-old man died while quarantined in the hospital in Taunggyi, southern Shan State on Tuesday morning.
The man had returned to Taunggyi from Myawaddy in Karen State, and arrived in Sao San Htun Hospital on Monday complaining of fatigue and a dry cough.
“The reason why he passed away is still unknown,” Dr. Wai Wai Mon, who is working in the hospital, told SHAN. “When he arrived in hospital, he had a cough and was tired. We already took a swab from him and sent it to the laboratory. I think we will get the results tomorrow.”
Dr. Wai Wai Mon said that the swab test for COVID-19 had been sent to the National Health Laboratory in Yangon.
In Sao San Htun Hospital, there is one confirmed case of COVID-19 and two suspected cases.
The man’s death is the second in a Taunggyi quarantine in a week. A woman died on September 5 after suffering a high fever and a stroke.
As of September 8, Burma’s Ministry of Health and Sports had reported 1,610 confirmed cases of COVID-19, eight deaths and 388 recoveries.
