Over the past two months, the military regime has arrested approximately 40 residents from villages across Ywangan Township, accusing them of having links to People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), according to local sources.

Between July and August, around 40 villagers were detained from communities including Kyaung Nghet, Thein Kone, Myazaydi, Myaing, and Nwar Bangyi. A source familiar with the arrests told SHAN that several detainees remain unaccounted for, with their families having lost contact with them and unable to determine their whereabouts or condition.

“The people who were arrested are from villages like Kyaung Nghet, Thein Kone, Myazaydi, Myaing, and Nwar Bangyi. The circumstances of their arrests, where they are being held, and what has happened to them vary. Some families have completely lost contact with them,” the source said.

On August 4, regime troops detained seven residents of Myazaydi Village on allegations of supporting local PDF networks. Nearly two weeks later, on August 16, the regime escalated pressure on civilians by ordering residents of the Myaing, Ah Lel Chaung, and Khawg village tracts to leave their homes, citing the possibility of armed clashes in the area.

Ywangan Township remains heavily militarized and contested, with multiple armed groups operating in the area, including regime forces, pro-military Pyu Saw Htee militias, the Pa-O National Organization (PNO), the Danu People’s Liberation Front/Army (DPLF/DPLA), and the Danu State Nationalities Defense Army (DSNDA).

As security operations intensify, local communities continue to bear the immediate humanitarian consequences, including arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and forced displacement.
