The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) clashed with the Burma army, when the former collected taxes in the 105-mile trade zone in Muse District in northern Shan State, on the morning of July 11.

.

An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, said the Ta’ang soldiers came in a private car. “I do not think they informed them that they were coming to the trade zone and the Burma army shot at them as soon as they saw them.” He said one TNLA soldier was killed and suspected that the regime also suffered casualties during the 10-minute shootout, but could not say for certain.

The TNLA also clashed with the regime near Nam Twe in Kyaukme District on 10 July after a column of Burma army soldiers arrived from Mong Ngor, according to a woman, who also requested anonymity. “The Burma army also attacked the TNLA with artillery from their base on Yan Kin Hill in Mong Ngor,” she said.

SHAN repeatedly called the TNLA spokesperson for comment but could not reach him.

Since declaring a unilateral ceasefire until the end of 2013, the junta has continued its offensives against the ethnic armed groups, using its jet fighters and airships and ground troops, and frequently attacking their camps and headquarters.
