The Burma Army (BA) reportedly attacked the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) as the armed group was preparing food to offer to monks at the end of a three-day Shan New Year celebration in a village in Hsipaw Township, northern Shan State.
A local, who requested anonymity, told SHAN that five BA soldiers were killed and eight SSPP soldiers were wounded after the regime attacked Shan soldiers guarding Koong Hsar during a 30-minute battle on 25 November.
“We heard the gunshots around 6am,” said the 30-year-old. More than 500 people from Kon Tha, Nawng Ann, Kon Pin and Sisone had to flee their homes, some of them going to Hsipaw town the source said. The BA have since taken over Koong Hsar.
On 10 November, the regime fought with the SSPP nearby.
