A Shan man is in intensive care at Lashio Public Hospital after stepping on a hidden landmine in Mong Kung Township in southern Shan State, where the Burma Army and the Shan State Progress Party maintain troops.

“He suffered serious injuries to his body, hands and legs. One of his legs is broken,” a local source told SHAN. Villagers found Sai Kusala and brought him back home before he was taken to Nam Lan hospital and then transferred to Lashio in northern Shan State.
Sai Kusala, 26, triggered the hidden explosive device while walking to his farm near Nawng Pat at 3pm on 13 September.
“He has two children, one of whom is only 6 years old. He’s the main provider for the family and needs some money to pay for his medical expenses,” a man close to the family told SHAN.
