Former headman arrested despite the withdrawal of charges against him

A former headman was arrested after returning home and resuming his volunteer work even though the charges against him under section 505 (a) has been withdrawn by the military junta.

On October 11, 2021, U San Win Maung, a former headman of Aung Chan Tha ward, Hsihseng twonship, was taken away from his home by the authority.

“It’s confirmed. I do not know where he is being detained,” a man anonymously told SHAN due to his security concern.

U San Win Maung was on the run when he learned about the charges against him has been revoked from the police authority. He then returned to his home and volunteered at Metta Yawng Chi association until his recent arrest.

He was accused of participating and leading the protest against the military junta in Hsihseng township in February this year. Since then he has been on the run. Police searched his home and could not find him; instead, the police took his wife.

His wife has been locked up in  Taung Layone prison, Nyaung Shwe township, Southern Shan State.
