Eight transmissions were reported by the Burma government’s Ministry of Health and Sports (MoHS) in southern Shan State on Thursday, December 3.

Medical staff tested 742 tissue samples at a COVID-19 laboratory in Taunggyi, the capital of Shan State, and detected 8 cases, all of which were in quarantine.

Of these transmissions, two are from Pindaya town, two are from Laikha Township, one is from Mongnai town, two are from Aye Thayar town and one is from Hpekon town.

According to Dr Moe Tun, the head of Taunggyi Township Public Health Department, 99 cases have been detected in Taunggyi Township since the virus was first discovered in late March, while 65 have recovered from the disease. He said there’s still 34 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment at Sao San Htun Public Hospital.

In eastern Shan State, health officials told SHAN there were five transmissions detected in Tachileik this Friday, December 4. There are 56 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in the hospital in the town located along Thai border. Authorities are preparing additional quarantine facilities.

MoHS reported 1,428 new confirmed cases in the country on December 3. There were 1,147 people discharged from the hospital the same day, and 30 died of the disease within 24-hours.

Since the onset of the pandemic, there were 95,018 confirmed cases in the country on December 3. There have been 73,748 recoveries and 2,028 died.
