White Tiger Party Changes Name For Burma’s Election

Must read

The Shan Nationalities Democratic Party, also known as the White Tiger Party, has changed its name to the Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP) with the Union Election Commission (UEC) to contest the so-called upcoming elections under the military regime.

.

Sai Aik Pao, chairperson of the SNDP, said they have changed their name to equally represent all ethnic nationalities. “Our party is not only for the Shan ethnic group, we also work for the other ethnic groups, which is why we changed our name,” he said, explaining that they also changed their logo with a different colour scheme.

Outside Shan State, the SNDP will field candidates in Yangon, Mandalay, Irrawaddy, Bago, Taninthari and Naypyidaw.

Although the race has already been announced, a firm election date, campaign schedule, number of constituencies and other important details have yet to be determined.

In the 2020 election, the SNDP secured a seat in Mong Pan Township for Shan State Parliament.
