Dr Zawana, head of Shan State Health Department, told SHAN the swabs were taken from 161 workers who have been staying at a quarantine facility in Taunggyi, capital of Shan State.

The workers, who crossed the Friendship Bridge from the Thai border town of Mai Sot, have been in quarantine since July 1. Dr Zawana says there are currently 1,055 workers staying at quarantine facilities in southern Shan State.

There were 1,781 workers who returned to southern Shan State from Thailand from May 27 to June 30.

All 10 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Shan State have recovered and been discharged from the hospital. But there are rumours circulating that Case 96 tested positive again.

Burma’s Ministry of Health and Sports reported on July 3 that there were 304 confirmed cases, while 6 died and 223 recovered.
