Burma Receives 187 Returnees From Thailand

Must read

Burma accepted 187 citizens back into the country who crossed the Friendship Bridge-2 last week from Mae Sai, in Thailand, to Tachilek in southern Shan State.

Chan Myay Saw, the township’s general administration development (GAD) officer, told SHAN this Tuesday (June 23) they received 164 migrant workers and 23 who were released from a Thai prison.

Chan Myay Saw says only 31 migrant workers from Tachilek will be quarantined in the town for 21-days. “We will send others to their own townships where they will do their quarantine.”

Currently, the 31 migrant workers are the only locals staying in the quarantine facility in Tachilek. After seven days, their tissue samples will be sent to the laboratory to test for COVID-19. In June, there were over 400 who returned to Burma from Mae Sai.
