A hundred-household head was abducted and killed in Myay Ni Kone Village, part of Ahle Chaung village tract in Ywangan Township, southern Shan State, amid rising insecurity and targeted attacks on local administrators.
On the night of January 21 at around 10:30 p.m., 65-year-old U Myint Htay was taken from his home by an unidentified armed group, according to local sources. After an overnight search, his family discovered his body on the morning of January 22 along the road connecting Myay Ni Kone and Luu villages. He had reportedly suffered multiple stab wounds.
On January 23, the military commission accused eight members of the People’s Defense Force (PDF) of carrying out the killing. However, Ko Kyar Pyan, information officer of the Danu State National Defence Army (DSNDA), said the identity of the perpetrators has not been confirmed.
“If the harm to the public continues to increase, revolutionary groups will continue carrying out such killings,” Ko Kyar Pyan told SHAN, while emphasizing that responsibility for this specific incident remains unverified.
Following the killing, security forces tightened patrols and inspections across Ywangan Township. A local woman reported that clashes erupted on January 23 between military troops and PDF forces along the Myay Ni Kone–Ahle Chaung road.
“After the hundred-household head was killed, there was a brief clash with revolutionary forces. They exchanged gunfire, including heavy weapons. Strict inspections are ongoing, and vehicles are still not allowed to pass,” she said.
Local residents say village administrators, ten-household heads, and hundred-household heads in Ywangan Township have increasingly been targeted since the military coup, often accused of acting as military informants, commonly referred to as “dalans.”
According to data compiled by SHAN, at least 13 civilians and local administrators were killed in Ywangan Township between 2024 and November 2025 under allegations of being informants.
Ywangan Township remains a contested area, with multiple armed actors operating in the region, including the military commission, the Pa-O National Army (PNA), the Danu People’s Liberation Army (DPLA), the Jasmine Pya Revolution Force (JPRF), and the Danu State National Defence Army (DSNDA).
