A Military Council airstrike killed a civilian and injured three people in northern Shan State near Mandalay Region.
The jet fighter attacked Tawng Ni in Kyaukme Township around 3 pm on June 19. One of those injured was a ten-year-old child. Two homes were damaged.
A Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) spokesperson criticised the Burma army for deliberately targeting civilians but did not specify the armed group’s intended response. “Our leaders will decide how to respond,” she said, declining further comment.
The Ta’ang armed group highlighted how the Military Council has repeatedly violated the Haigeng agreement through aggressive shelling and drone strikes, and by cutting off roads connecting TNLA-controlled towns to restrict food deliveries to the area.
The Three Brotherhoods Alliance, which includes TNLA, captured numerous towns and regime bases and camps during its 1027 Operation last year. They also secured sections of the crucial Union Highway, which facilitates most of the country’s trade with China. However, fighting largely subsided after the alliance signed a ceasefire with the junta brokered by China in early January.
On the same day as the airstrike, the regime used a drone to kill two TNLA soldiers at their camp in Shwe Nyaung Pin, located in Nawngkio Township in northern Shan State.
The day before that TNLA soldiers died from drone attacks near Shwe Nyaung and Hsum Hsai, and five soldiers were injured. Regime forces based in Ohmmathi launched the attack on the Ta’ang soldiers.
