Three Civilians Injured During Clashes in Muse Township

Some civilian people were wounded during clash between Burma army and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Muse Township of northern Shan State.

TNLA troops ambushed a Burma army military convoy between Ouk Tong Khan and the 105-mile Trade Zone in Muse Township on 2 August. The Burma army military convoy included 10 military trucks carrying more than 100 soldiers. At least two soldiers from the local People’s Militia Force, which is backed by the Burma army, were killed during the clash.

The clash location is not far from the 105-mile Trade Zone, and is on the road to the Jin San Jiao Burma-China border checkpoint.

A local man from Muse town reported that after the clash the Burma army artillery battalion, based at the 105-mile Trade Zone, began firing shells towards the clash location. One shell hit a civilian house near the 105-mile Trade Zone and wounded a local women, who is now receiving medical treatment at Muse public hospital, according to the man.

Following the clash, some local people have taken shelter at the Nam Oon Kachin Baptist Church and some have fled to Muse town.

Elsewhere in Muse Township, TNLA troops clashed with Burma army troops at the foot of Loi Tay Mueng hill in Jea Lant village tract on the morning of 2 August. During that clash, Burma army troops based in Muse town attacked TNLA positions with artillery. Residents of Muse town reported hearing the sound of artillery fire until 9 p.m. on 2 August.

“They opened fire with artillery shells the whole day. The sound was so loud. I think clash will escalate in coming days. We have to be careful when we travel in the area,” a female resident of Muse town told SHAN.

One of the artillery shells landed in front of a civilian house in Jea Lant village and injured a women and child, according to local reports.

“Two shells landed in Jea Lant village. One shell landed in a garden but didn’t cause major damage. Another shell landed in front of a civilian house and injured a mother and her child. Their injuries are not serious,” the local man told SHAN.

Some residents of Tawng quarter in Jea Lant village tract have taken shelter in the Loi Tay Mong Kamahtan monastery.

At the time of writing, SHAN was not able to independently verify whether there were any causalities among the Burma army and TNLA troops fighting in Muse Township.

TNLA troops have had intense battles with the Burma army in Muse Township since 23 July.
