On Tuesday, regime airstrikes on an internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp injured a family of three, including a three-year-old child, in western Demoso Township, Karenni State.

“They were sleeping in their bamboo hut when the jet fighter attacked their IDP camp. Maybe the Burma army thought there were PDF (People Defence Force) soldiers in the camp, but that’s not true: there are only IDPs,” a local told SHAN about the 2am attack.

A school and several huts were destroyed by the regime’s four bombardments in the camp of 50 huts. The man said some residents have fled to the jungle in the rain or, if they have family in the area, have taken shelter with them, while others don’t know where to hide.

According to the Progressive Karenni People’s Force, the Burma army launched 436 airstrikes in Karenni State within 28 months since the military coup, killing 462 civilians. More than 250,000 people have been displaced by regime incursions and fighting with resistance groups in Karenni and Pekon Township in southern Shan State.
