“Fighting has been so intense these days,” said a local man who requested anonymity for his own safety. He said the clashes have been ongoing since March, when the sit-tat (Burmy army) opened several roads such as Zayap Phyu Road to send troops well supplied with rations to encircle the town.

The Mobye People Defence Force Battalion 01, Karenni Nationalities Defence Force Battalion 3 and the Urban Revolution Front clashed with the sit-tat all day outside and in the town.

The regime fired numerous shells, injuring a child under 10 and damaging at least two houses in Mobye. They also injured two civilians when they shelled it from a distance with artillery on 4 May.
