At approximately 1:30 p.m. on 29 January, the military regime’s Light Infantry Battalion 504 (LIB-504) attacked the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) Battalion 595 camp in Lashio Township in northern Shan State. LIB-504, which is under the North-Eastern Military Command headquarters, attacked the TNLA camp with artillery before ground forces advanced towards the TNLA camp.

“They attacked us with artillery for at least 10 minutes, then their ground troops started to attack. We exchanged gun fire, and the firefight remained intense until around 4 p.m.,” a TNLA officer from the frontline, who requested anonymity, told SHAN.

The TNLA officer added that the clash took place near Nam Maw and Wan Kawng villages in Lashio Township. The number of causalities during the clash could not be confirmed.

The Military regime announced a year-long ceasefire with ethnic armed organizations starting on 1 January 2023, but in practice the junta has continued to launch offensives against ethnic armed groups using air power, artillery shells and ground forces.
