The body of a girl, believed to be a teenager, was found in Namtu Township, northern Shan State on Thursday.
Chit Mwe, who is working with a local volunteer team, said that the body was found near Pan Thapyay village on the Namtu-Lashio road. The area is seven miles from Namtu town.
“Police called our social volunteer team at around 1:30 p.m. Then we went to pick up the body. Perhaps she might be 15 or 16 years old,” Chit Mwe told SHAN.
The identity of the girl is not yet known, and her body was sent to Namtu public hospital where an autopsy will be performed.
A police officer in Namtu said that the case is under investigation.
No perpetrators have been arrested, as is the case with multiple civilian deaths in Shan State.
