The man has reportedly been hospitalized for wounds to his legs, hands, neck and ribs.
A man in northern Shan State’s Namkham Township endured serious injuries when a landmine exploded while he was farming on Sunday.
Tar Aik Yai, also known as Kon Aik Awng, unknowingly hit the landmine with a hoe while working in his paddy field in Mangpan village at around 10 a.m.
“He has injuries to his legs, hands, neck and ribs. He has been hospitalized in Namkham public hospital. He is still unconscious,” Namkham local Sai Aik Naw told SHAN.
It is unknown which armed group planted the device, or when. The Burma Army, the Northern Alliance of ethnic armed groups, the Restoration Council of Shan State, and various paramilitary forces are active in the area.
