A village administrator and a civilian were shot dead in Kyauk Pizat village, Ywangan Township, Southern Shan State, marking the latest in a wave of targeted attacks on local officials.
A local woman in her 30s told SHAN that on October 28, an unidentified armed group entered Kyauk Pizat village and shot dead the village head, U Tint Wai (in his 40s), and a civilian, Nyi Htut (in his 30s).
“The village head and one villager were killed. It is not yet clear which armed group carried out the attack. Everything is under investigation. Security inspections are very strict,” she said.
U Tint Wai was known for his ties to the military. Residents say repeated attacks on village administrators have left many positions vacant, and those serving live in constant fear.
“In villages where administrators were killed, no one wants the position. Other village heads are also terrified. They are caught between fear of both sides,” a local man said.
This incident follows a series of similar attacks in the township, including the killing of Kyantaw village administrator U Ba Hmuay and a militia member from Myit Thein Tan village on October 6, 2025, the assassination of the Thein Kone village administrator and his wife in October 2024, and the death of a village administrator and one civilian in Phayar Gyi Kone village on November 26, 2024.
The violence has been compounded by ongoing military activity. On October 30, the Danu State National Defense Army (DSNDA) ambushed a junta column of about 20 soldiers near Yanae village tract, killing two soldiers, according to a DSNDA statement dated November 1. Following the attacks and clashes, the military council has intensified offensives and imposed strict security checks on civilians throughout Ywangan Township.
