A bomb blast seriously injured five people attending a meeting at the office of the director of Nawngkio Township Education Department in the town of the same name in northern Shan State at 3pm on Tuesday 31 May.
According to an anonymous staff member, the victims are in critical care at the hospital.
A local woman, who also requested anonymity, said the blast occurred on the last day parents could enrol their children in government-run schools.
The regime is pushing to resume classes, which have been suspended since the pandemic and after most teachers and other staff joined the civil disobedience movement against the dictatorship. Many children have not attended classes for two years.
”Some parents have gone to the school to enrol their children,” which was not affected by the explosion, the woman told SHAN.
At the time of publication, no one has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
