The deadly 28 March 2025 earthquake that struck Sagaing Region also hit southern Shan State and killed two children in Panglong (ပၢင်လွင်း) Township and left residents of the township requiring aid.

Nampang Village lies about eight miles southwest of Panglong Town in southern Shan State. The earthquake killed two children in the village, one a three-year-old and the other an eight-year-old. It also destroyed 100 of the village’s 150 houses. The villagers are in desperate need of water, medicine, and other assistance and no aid from the authorities or relief organisations has reached the village yet according to a villager who spoke to Shan Herald.

He said: “Two children have died, and we desperately need help. The authorities aren’t showing up, and even with the [junta-aligned] Pa-O National Organisation (PNO) militia in the area, no one is coming to help us.”

Many of the Nampang villagers who lost their homes are from the Pa-O ethnic group.

An aid worker helping the earthquake victims in Nampang Village said: “Of course, we desperately need help. The earthquake left Nampang a devastated ruin. Two children, just three and eight years old, lost their lives.”

In southern Shan State, the earthquake claimed 12 lives in Aungban Town, Kalaw Township, and around 90 in the Inle Lake area of Nyaungshwe Township.

On the evening of 3 April, the junta announced that the death toll from the earthquake in Myanmar had reached 3,145, with 4,589 injured and 221 still missing.
