A Shan national level political dialogue will be held in early April, the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) announced after its annual meeting at its Loi Tai Leng headquarters this week.
The 20th annual meeting was held from February 21-24.
The RCSS said that they have been unable to organize the national level dialogue since attempting to do so in 2017.
Maj Kham San, a spokesperson for the RCSS, told SHAN that it had been agreed in the last Joint Implementation Coordination Meeting that the fourth session of the Union Peace Conference (UPC) would be held, likely in April.
“Before holding the UPC, we agreed to hold the Shan national level political dialogue in Langkhur town in southern Shan State in early April,” Maj Kham San said.
RCSS will reportedly soon form an executive committee for the dialogue, and aims to hold a preparatory meeting for it in late March.
The RCSS and Shan political parties tried to hold a national level political dialogue in Panglong in early 2017, before the third round of the UPC. The government and military prohibited it, and public meetings were also blocked in Shan State.
