A primary school in Tartwe village, in northern Shan State’s Muse Township, was broken into while teachers and students were away for the annual Thingyan holidays, teachers said.

Tartwe, located 50 miles from the city of Muse, has a primary school, office and teachers’ dormitory.

“I returned to the village from Muse [on Monday] to post the examination results at the school,” teacher Daw Thae Thae told SHAN. “I was really angry when I saw it. Windows were broken. They drank beer and cooked in the school building,” she added.

According to the teachers, the village authorities still don’t know who broke into the school.

“They didn’t steal anything from the school. It looks really bad for what they had done. Our dormitory was also damaged. They took away our food,” Daw Thae Thae said, adding that she is now worried about the teachers’ safety in the building.

SHAN called the police station in Muse, but police officers responded that they had not heard about the case yet.
