RCSS, Peace Commission Hold Informal Meeting in Chiang Mai

Members of the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) and the Burmese government’s Peace Commission met for an informal meeting in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Monday morning.

The RCSS delegates included Brig-Gen Bawng Khur, Col Sai Nguen and Sai Liang. Attending on behalf of the Peace Commission were secretary U Khin Zaw Oo, advisor U Hla Maung Shwe, President’s Office spokesperson U Zaw Htay, and parliamentarian U Aung Soe.

“They mainly discussed how to overcome the issues on which they are deadlocked, how to cooperate in a way to move the peace process forward, and what the alternative ways to get out of the deadlock might be,” Pyidaungsu Institute director Khuensai Jaiyen told SHAN.

RCSS and PC held an informal meeting on 16 November 2018.

The Peace Commission was reportedly also scheduled to informally meet the Karenni National Progressive Party and the Kachin Independence Organization on Monday. They met with representatives of the Karen National Union on Sunday.
