Trucks were lined up at the Mang Weing border gate in Muse, with Chinese authorities closely
inspecting lorries coming into the country from Burma on Friday.
The line of vehicles stretched out of town from the border gate, creating difficulties for smaller
cars navigating the town and leading to tension among drivers, eyewitnesses told SHAN.
Typically, 200 trucks cross the border to China daily at Mang Weing—with inspections slowing
traffic, that number has shrunk to just 80.
Driver Ko Min Min said that he had seen civilians and traffic police sustain injuries due to
reckless driving in Muse and nearby Namkham.
“Drivers are competing to pass each other on the road—it’s causing traffic jams. Then they start
quarreling,” he said, adding that some of the arguments had turned violent, with a driver
threatening a police officer with a knife.
Muse locals have demanded that the blockade be ended and the traffic congestion be
alleviated.
