Actually, the escalation of conflict where the Rohingya and the Burma Army is concerned, it is a pre-programmed conflict result, knowingly or unknowingly.

Even many well-meaning international actors and individuals have been suggesting all along that a humane political solution would be the best way to defuse the conflict situation, that has its base in racism or over-foreignization angst, the powers that be in Burma refused to consider.

Instead, the successive political decision-makers of the country have indulged in their own one way street, pre-concieved ideas, directly or indirectly, advocating racism, stoking worries of the indigenous population over-foreignization and rewriting history to suit their desired outcomes.

The powers that be should not wonder why the Rohingya have now chosen to fight back and resist. If a dog is cornered, it will fight back, so goes the saying.

Suppression alone won’t resolve the problem. A well thought out accommodation plan and political solution are the way to go. For the present, Kofi Annan Commission’s recommendation should be closely studied and apply where necessary.

Time to call for a peaceful negotiation and political settlement solution, rather than just sheer suppression and total elimination before the Rohingya resistance becomes connected to the radical Islam group such as ISIS and the likes, which could lead the country into a deep abyss of no return.
